Honduras is for diving and snorkeling lovers the ultimate paradise. In these areas there are reef still intact, where you can swim and, above all, immerse yourself to go to the discovery of these wonderful seabed. Roatan, the largest of the Islas de la Bahía, is one of the most wild and beautiful island part of Honduras, characterized by a very intense underwater life: just think of the opportunity to dive with sharks, swimming even with dolphins.

1. El Aguila Wreck

El Aguila WreckEl Aguila Wreck was originally a 75-metre long cargo ship that sank off the coast of Utila around the 1990s, to then be adapted to allow divers to enter in. Still in those years, the fury of hurricane Mitch reduced El Aguila in three pieces, and that’s just the way it is now, like a wrecked ship. With over a decade of encrusting sponges, and soft coral-reef growth, the wreck is starting to rival other more well-known shipwrecks of the Caribbean for its natural beauty.

This dive site offers many areas and crevices for divers eager to explore it in its 110 feet of depth. Here, in addition to the wreck, it is possible to admire the delicious groupers and parrot fishes that will accompany you throughout the dive.

2. The West End Wall

West End WallWest End Wall gives a really nice experience that promises scuba divers a spectacular view of an enormous underwater wall. Also great for snorkeling, the West End Wall is covered with outcrops of coral that inhabit the vibrant and diverse marine life. 

It is one of the most popular site for scuba diving due to its close proximity to The Point and to the fact that it is precisely here where you can experience some of the strongest currents of the island. The West End Well allows you to immerse yourself in a pleasant, sailing effortlessly along the wall. In addition, given the potentially strong currents, depending on the weather conditions daily, this is a place for more experienced divers.

3. Blue Channel

With the name Blue Channel it’s indicated the suggestive coral reef where the divers can dive to admire the variety of fish available. This is a popular dive for snorkelers, located just off the famous West End of Roatan. From the wall, you can follow a path of swimming towards the coral reef to admire and see the boarfish, snappers, triggerfishes, barracudas, barracudas and groupers.

It’s the ideal place for all levels of diving, but you need a good buoyancy control to avoid coral scraping. In addition, there are superficial areas to travel for hours, suitable for all those who love snorkeling. Here also the possibility of exploring the canyon and swim through it.

4. Hole in the Wall

Located just off Mangrove bight, this site allows even beginners to dive, enjoying the spectacular view that the marine wall is able to give us. While for those more experienced, who wish to experience adrenaline, there is a cave at the end of the canyon that contains dark passages, dangerous to explore. The Red lionfish, the crab, and grouper are just a few of the fish housed in the caverns, caves and canyons in this dive site.

5. Pablo’s Place

Another site where you can make drift dive is Pablo’s Place. Located in the North-West part of the island of Roatan, this place is ideal for anyone who wishes to admire the coral full of reef fish and large size sharks. Located at the western end of the island near Flowers Bay, this dive site has a beautiful vertical coral reef from about 50 feet below the surface, where you can admire many varieties of marine life: barracudas, Common eagle rays, triggerfishes, yellow-tail Cribos. The best diving time is by Mid-morning, when the sun is in the best position to illuminate the magnificent wall.
